At long last, Steeler Training Camp has arrived, and I can barely contain myself. I might even splurge and drink two Diet Pepsis on Friday night to celebrate the arrival of players to Latrobe.

I figured we should commemorate the occasion with some hardcore Steeler talk, which is exactly what I attempted to do in today’s feature for 93.7 The Fan, 10 Steelers Under the Microscope in 2010.

These are the guys who will really be feeling the pressure to step up, for a variety of reasons.Their level of play and their health will be crucial to the team’s success this season.

The Steelers have made a big move on the eve of training camp, signing plus-sized OT Flozell “The Hotel” Adams as a replacement for Willie Colon.  It’s a two-year deal, with financial terms not yet available.

The 6′7″, 335-pound Adams, 35, visited the Steelers earlier this month, as did fellow free agent Chester Pitts. Pitts also signed on the dotted line today, joining Pete Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks.

Adams started all 16 games for Dallas in 2009 and was released this past offseason. He was due a $2.5 million roster bonus in April and base salary of $5 million in 2010. He was a second-round pick of the Cowboys in the 1998 draft and had the longest tenure of any Dallas player at the time of his release.

Adams had an eventful 2009, when he was fined $50,000 for an altercation with Justin Tuck in December and a hat trick of fines in consecutive weeks to start the season. So it looks like we may have some controversy to look forward to.

The arrival of Adams may push Max Starks from left tackle to right tackle, where he started in 2005 and 2006. Regardless of how the pieces fall into place, this was a move the team had to make, from a depth standpoint. As long as Adams can contribute (and I think he can), I’m hopeful that this will turn out to be a good signing for the team.

KEVIN COLBERT signed a five-year deal to remain as the Steelers’ Director of Football Operations, a job he’s held since 2000. The team is also close to signing second-round pick Jason Worilds, which would leave first-rounder Maurkice Pouncey as the only unsigned draft pick from the 2010 class. The last Steeler to sign a contract after camp started was Ben Roethlisberger in 2004. [PG]

ROSS OHLENDORF left Wednesday’s Pirate game in the first inning after being struck in the head with a Troy Tulowitzki line drive. It’s the second such incident this season for the team, with Chris Jaukubauskas getting hit in similar fashion against the Astros on April 24. Ohlendorf’s current condition is not yet available, but he did leave the field on his own power. Let’s hope all is well with Mr. Wonderful. He’s had a rough go of it in 2010. [By Gosh, It's Langosh]

RB JAMEEL POTEAT of Bishop McDevitt High, has made it official: he’s headed to Pitt. Poteat is the cousin of former Panther standout Hank Poteat and was mentored by another Bishop McDevitt back, Shady McCoy.  Poteat turned down scholarships from Florida, Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Cincinnati, Rutgers, and a number of other schools.  Wanny does it again! OF GORKYS HERNANDEZ will be out 3-4 months after fracturing his right ring finger, thus ending his season. One of the Pirates’ top prospects, Hernandez was playing at AA Altoona, where he was hitting .266 with 2 HR, 26 RBIs, 11 doubles and 17 SB in 20 attempts. [KDKA Insider]

JABAAL SHEARD’s preliminary hearing for his “throwing the man through the glass door” incident has been delayed until August 4. He remains on indefinite suspension from Team Wannstache. [Trib]

MARIO LEMIEUX and SIDNEY CROSBY became the first people to hit the Consol Energy Center ice, which they did on Tuesday afternoon. They were then joined by several children donning Crosby and Lemieux jerseys who got the chance to take some shots at 66, who stepped between the pipes. DION LEWIS and GREG ROMEUS are headed to Bristol, Connecticut, on Friday to do TV, radio, and internet appearances on ESPN. And in a related story, The Sporting News was in Pittsburgh yesterday to do a major feature on Lewis. I smell some Heisman hype! [93.7 The Fan]

LONDON (Reuters) — Arsenal has no intention of selling captain Cesc Fabregas manager Arsene Wenger said on Wednesday dismissing Barcelona’s repeated approaches for the Spain midfielder as “transfer noise.”

Barca have openly courted the 23-year-old and according to media reports in Britain and Spain made a $45.17 million bid last month to take the World Cup winner back to the Nou Camp where he played as a youth.

After Spain was crowned world champions earlier this month, Fabregas’ celebrating team mates forced a Barcelona shirt over his shoulders on their return home but that looks to be as close as he will get to wearing one in the forseeable future.

“It is only noise. In our job we have to deal with what we can master. What we cannot influence is not to worry about,” Wenger told Arsenal’s website (www.arsenal.com).

“He is a very important player for us, he is our captain and we have worked very hard (for him) to be the future of our team and that is why we are always adamant about not letting him go.”

Fabregas has five years left on his contract and Arsenal have refused to open any negotiations with Barca over a sale.

He joined the Premier League club as a 16-year-old in 2003 and has made a total of 267 appearances scoring 48 goals.

An MRI revealed no damage in the shoulder of Nationals’ star rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg. Washington will monitor him closely and see how he responds. It’s uncertain how long he’ll be out.

Strasburg, the Nats rookie phenom who has electrified baseball since making his major league debut on June 8, was scratched from what would have been the 10th start of his career on Monday night just minutes before he was to take the mound against against the Braves in D.C. He said he had trouble getting loose in the bullpen while warming up and the Nats chose to start Miguel Batista instead.

Strasburg, who turned 22 last week, has gone 5-2 with a 2.32 ERA and 75 strikeouts against just 15 walks in 54 1/3 innings pitched. The Nationals, who selected Strasburg with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 draft, have been carefully watching his workload this season. (SI.COM)

I’ve gradually grown tired of the MH format that I installed last year, so I thought the timing was right for a few tweaks here and there on the site, which you will see now. The most notable changes are the Hot Topics being stretched across the top of the page (in photo form) and the comments section getting relocated to the bottom of each post. I also dumped the various “Best Of” sections on the side of the page. It was just becoming too cluttered. But other than a few color changes and some minor housekeeping issues, most of the site will be staying the same.
